Murder Investigation Unfolds in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Authorities have apprehended a suspect in the murder of a 30-year-old woman in Bhubaneswar, along with another individual who attempted to mislead the investigation by planting false evidence.

The victim has been identified as Sneha Behera, hailing from Kandhamal district.

During a press briefing on Thursday, Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh described the case as 'particularly intriguing.'

A decomposed body was found in the Dhauli police jurisdiction on January 28.

Investigators discovered that a missing person report had been lodged at Khandagiri police station on January 17 by Banita Digal, also from Kandhamal.

Banita reported that her sister, Sneha Behera, also known as Aparna, had been unaccounted for since January 10 while working in Baramunda.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to neck compression, indicating homicide.

A collaborative investigation by Khandagiri and Dhauli police revealed that Chandan Parida, a 27-year-old security guard, was romantically involved with the victim.

On the day of the incident, Sneha and Chandan visited Dhauli Stupa and later went to Dhauli Chhak.

According to Singh, a dispute arose between them when Chandan suspected Sneha of communicating with another man frequently.

The argument intensified as they approached the river embankment near Basuaghai village.

'During the altercation, Chandan struck Sneha, causing her to fall. He then strangled her with a scarf and discarded her body by the roadside,' Singh stated.

In a surprising turn, police discovered an attempt to frame another individual.

Mitu Parida from Chandanpur, Puri, upon learning of the body’s discovery, concocted a scheme to implicate Ramesh Sahu from Jajpur, with whom he had a dispute.

Mitu was allegedly involved with Ramesh's wife.

'To execute his plan, Mitu placed Ramesh's identification documents in a wallet along with a fabricated suicide note at the crime scene to wrongfully associate Ramesh with the murder,' the police commissioner explained.

Ramesh was initially questioned, but the truth soon emerged. A separate case has been filed at Dhauli police station, leading to Mitu Parida's arrest.
